CHALLENGE

Our collaboration with Basler, a global leader in vision technology, involved creating a dedicated frontend interface for the Basler Vision Connector (BVC) application. The goal was to provide users with an intuitive tool for camera management, fully integrated into the Siemens Industrial Edge ecosystem, thereby simplifying complex processes and boosting operational efficiency.

Creating the application required not only in-depth knowledge of modern frontend technologies but also specialized expertise in communication protocols and industrial ecosystems. Our team had to meet unique technical requirements to ensure reliability and smooth operation.

  • Embedding the application deeply within the Siemens Industrial Edge environment, which involved using a dedicated UI component library and adhering to specific platform standards.
  • Implementing a custom WebSocket-based protocol to handle data fragmentation, payload size limits, custom headers, and a connection keep-alive mechanism.
  • Managing the intricate dependencies of the camera configuration, where adjusting one parameter could dynamically alter the availability and values of other settings.
  • Applying an in-depth understanding of industrial communication protocols, such as MQTT and ZeroMQ, to ensure their correct implementation and configuration.

Building on our deep understanding of these challenges, we crafted a tailored approach designed to meet the unique requirements of the project and ecosystem. This foundation allowed us to focus our efforts on delivering a refined, efficient, and user-centered frontend solution.

SOLUTION

A Tailored Frontend for a Specialized Ecosystem

Through detailed architectural planning and an iterative implementation process, we developed a reliable, user-friendly interface optimized to function seamlessly within the Siemens Industrial Edge Hub. Close collaboration with Basler's UX team and business stakeholders ensured the final product fully met the needs of end-users.

Key Steps in the Process

1

We gathered and technically refined requirements to ensure a full understanding of the project goals.

2

We designed interactive mockups that allowed for early validation of key interface concepts.

4

We implemented the solution in an iterative process, with regular testing and feedback collection from the client.

3

We designed a scalable frontend architecture, selecting the optimal technologies and libraries.

5

We successfully completed the implementation and ensured a smooth handover of the source code.

Real-time camera management

A module for connecting, disconnecting, and streaming images in single shot or continuous shot modes.

Dynamic parameter configuration

An interface that automatically adjusts the list of available parameters and their values for the currently connected camera, preventing configuration errors.

Protocol settings

A dedicated panel for configuring ZeroMQ and MQTT connections and monitoring their status in real time.

Custom WebSocket Interface

Implemented a custom communication layer on top of standard WebSockets to handle the protocol's specific requirements.

RESULTS

Effective camera management that simplifies industrial operations and delivers key insights in real time.

Through this collaboration, we delivered an intuitive tool that bridges the gap between industrial hardware and user-centric design. Our solution empowers operators to manage vision systems with greater efficiency and confidence, streamlining workflows and boosting productivity in the demanding Industry 4.0 landscape.
